TitleThe Iron Traitor

SeriesThe Iron Fey:  Call of the Forgotten

AuthorJulie Kagawa

Published:  October 29, 2013  Harlequin Teen

In the real world, when you vanish into thin air for a week, people tend to notice.

After his unexpected journey into the lands of the fey, Ethan Chase just wants to get back to normal. Well, as “normal” as you can be when you see faeries every day of your life. Suddenly the former loner with the bad reputation has someone to try for-his girlfriend, Kenzie. Never mind that he’s forbidden to see her again.

But when your name is Ethan Chase and your sister is one of the most powerful faeries in the Nevernever, “normal” simply isn’t to be. For Ethan’s nephew, Keirran, is missing, and may be on the verge of doing something unthinkable in the name of saving his own love. Something that will fracture the human and faery worlds forever, and give rise to the dangerous fey known as the Forgotten. As Ethan’s and Keirran’s fates entwine and Keirran slips further into darkness, Ethan’s next choice may decide the fate of them all.

My Review: Ethan just wants his life to be normal…really…that’s all he wants.  But, unfortunately, it’s not to be.  And I, for one, am glad.  Sorry, Ethan!  This book takes us once again on an exciting adventure to Nevernever and beyond.  Ethan’s commitment to his family means that he can’t turn his back on his nephew, Keirran, even though he knows it spells trouble for him and for Kenzie, the girl he’s grown to love.

I learned so much more about these characters in this book.  I got a good look at who they are, their strengths and weaknesses, and their intentions.  And I fell more in love with them.  Ethan is strong and loyal and true.  If I were in trouble I’d want him on my side!  Even though his inner monologue often shows us his doubt and fear, he never backs down and never walks away from a challenge.  Kenzie…oh how I love Kenzie.  What a wonderful character!  She wants to live her life to the fullest even though she’s sick and she doesn’t want to be taken care of.  She strong and sassy and a perfect compliment to Ethan.  We also get Puck back again (I love his humor) and even Ash makes an appearance.  But it’s Keirran who’s the main focus.  I knew he’d be trouble when I met him in the last book and, of course, I was right.  But, I have to admit, that he grew on me in this book.  His loyalty to the girl he loves and his desire to save her life is endearing.  His single focus and his willingness to put his own life on the line is swoonworthy.  But maybe he’s too focused, too single-minded.  I can’t quite figure out how far he’ll go and then……

The end, my gosh, the end.  Things change so rapidly!  One minute, I’m happily strolling through the Nevernever with these characters, battling creatures and looking for cures, when all of a sudden it happens.  And I’m shocked and I’m saddened and I don’t know what to think…and the next book can’t come fast enough!!
